Engineering and security work for software companies

Software companies buy two things from us: engineers who can work in their codebase without a long ramp, and independent security testing their own team cannot do for itself.

What makes this sector different

Multi-tenancy is where the serious security risk lives. In a shared-tenant product, the worst flaws let one customer reach another customer’s data. Our application and API testing concentrates on object-level and function-level authorization, tenant isolation and business logic, because scanners rarely find those.

Enterprise customers ask for evidence. A penetration test report, a SOC 2 readiness plan, a security questionnaire answered with facts. We do the technical work behind those and tell you plainly where a gap needs engineering rather than wording.

Engineering capacity is often the constraint rather than direction. We place engineers who can work inside your process: your repository, your review standards, your deployment pipeline. For a defined piece of work, we can also take a workstream under a statement of work.

Where the work usually is

  • Tenant isolation

Authorization checked in the user interface or in one service but not consistently at the data layer.

  • API inventory

Endpoints that exist but are not documented, including older versions still in service.

  • Security questionnaires

Enterprise deals held up by questions the team cannot answer with evidence.

  • Pipeline and environment drift

Environments configured by hand, so what is tested is not what ships.

  • AI features shipped quickly

Agents with broad tool permissions and no authorization checks outside the model.

  • Hiring senior engineers

Long searches for specific skills, with a product deadline that will not move.

How we help

Regulatory and contractual context

  • SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria are the usual contractual expectation for enterprise software buyers.
  • State privacy laws give consumers rights that your product has to support, including deletion and access.
  • GDPR applies where you process data of people in the European Union, affecting data location and subprocessors.
  • Accessibility requirements apply to public and customer-facing interfaces; WCAG 2.2 AA is the usual target.
  • Customer contracts often require a current penetration test and a defined vulnerability remediation window.
  • Where you handle card or health data on behalf of customers, PCI DSS or HIPAA duties can reach your systems.

Illustrative engagement

Illustrative scenario. Not a real client engagement. No outcomes are claimed.

A B2B SaaS company is asked by a prospective enterprise customer for an independent test of tenant isolation before signing.

Starting point
A multi-tenant REST API, four user roles, automated scanning in the pipeline and no external test.
Scope
Authenticated API testing with two accounts per tenant and all four roles, focused on object-level and function-level authorization, tenant isolation and business flows, with a retest after fixes.
Team
Two testers and a lead, working in a staging environment with production-like data that contains no real customer records.
Deliverables
An executive summary, findings with reproduction steps and evidence, a prioritized remediation list, a debrief with the engineering team and a retest report.
What is not claimed
An illustration of a typical scope. Not a client engagement, and no findings are implied.

Questions people ask

Can we give the test report to our customers?

Yes. Reports are written so that an executive summary can be shared, and we can produce a summary letter where the full report is too detailed to circulate.

Will your engineers work in our repository and process?

Yes. That is the normal arrangement for staff augmentation: your repository, your review standards, your pipeline. For a defined deliverable we can instead work under a statement of work and own the outcome.

Do you test AI features?

Yes. We test the tools and permissions behind the feature, not only the chat interface, and we report reproducible behavior rather than anecdotes.

Can you help with a security questionnaire?

We can do the technical work behind the answers and point out where a gap needs an engineering fix rather than a better sentence. The answers themselves stay yours.
