Technology work for operators and service providers

Telecom systems are high volume and tightly coupled. An order touches provisioning, inventory, billing and support, and a change in one of them shows up in a bill a month later.

What makes this sector different

Order to activation is the flow that matters. Most modernization work we see starts there: an order that takes days because a step is manual, or a provisioning failure that nobody detects until a customer calls. Fixing it is integration and process work before it is platform work.

Billing accuracy is a data problem at scale. Usage records, rating rules, discounts and taxes have to produce the same answer every cycle. We build reconciliation between mediation, rating and the general ledger so that differences are found in hours rather than at close.

Network and customer data gives the most value when it is in one place. Pipelines from network elements into a cloud data platform let operations and finance use the same numbers, and they need throughput planning rather than a generic ETL design.

Where the work usually is

  • Manual steps in provisioning

Orders that stop at a step somebody has to do, with no visibility of the queue.

  • Billing disputes

Differences between usage, rated charges and the ledger that take a week to explain.

  • Legacy OSS platforms

Systems that work but cannot be changed quickly, surrounded by scripts.

  • Data volume

Pipelines designed for a fraction of the current record volume.

  • Customer data spread out

The same customer represented differently in CRM, billing and support.

  • Security of management interfaces

Network and platform management exposed more widely than anyone intended.

How we help

Regulatory and contractual context

  • FCC rules on customer proprietary network information restrict how customer usage data may be used and shared.
  • CALEA obligations affect lawful intercept capabilities and the access controls around them.
  • State and federal consumer billing rules shape dispute handling and billing accuracy requirements.
  • Universal service and regulatory reporting duties depend on data from billing and provisioning systems.
  • Privacy laws add duties for customer data, including retention and deletion requests.
  • Supply chain security rules may restrict equipment and vendors used in parts of the network.

Illustrative engagement

Illustrative scenario. Not a real client engagement. No outcomes are claimed.

An operator finds that a share of broadband orders stall between the order system and provisioning, and the first signal is a customer call.

Starting point
Order handoff by message queue, failures written to a log, no dashboard showing stalled orders and no owner for the queue.
Scope
Add status tracking per order, surface stalled orders to an operations dashboard with an owner and age, and add automatic retry for the two failure types that account for most of the volume.
Team
An integration architect, two backend engineers, a data engineer for the dashboard and an operations analyst.
Evidence
Stall counts measured before and after in a test environment, the dashboard in use by operations, and a runbook for the remaining manual failures.
What is not claimed
An example of scoping. No client or measured outcome is implied.

Questions people ask

Do you implement billing platforms?

We work on integration, data, reconciliation and support around billing platforms, and we staff analysts with platform experience. We will tell you at intake whether we have people for your specific platform.

Can you handle our data volumes?

We design for the volume you have and the volume you expect, and we test at that scale rather than estimating. If the volume needs a different architecture, we will say so during assessment.

Do you do network penetration testing?

Yes, with written authorization and an agreed scope. Testing that could affect service is scheduled in a window with your network team.

Can you support a 24-hour operation?

We staff roles across shifts where you need it. We do not advertise a managed 24-hour service of our own unless we have agreed it with you in a contract.
