Oracle practice
Oracle data migration
Migration success means the numbers balance and the business rules still work. We build the extraction, mapping, validation, loading and reconciliation, and repeat the cycle until the results are boring.
What organizations bring us
Moving from EBS or another system means more than copying tables. Source data was shaped by old configuration and workarounds. Duplicate suppliers, inactive customers, invalid account combinations and orphan transactions all appear when you try to load them into a system with stricter validation.
We treat migration as a repeatable process: extract, transform, validate, load, reconcile. Each rehearsal improves quality and measures how long cutover will take. By the final cycle the process is automated and the totals agree.
What the platform covers
-
Assessment and scoping
Decide what converts: open items, balances, masters, history, attachments.
-
Mapping and transformation
Source-to-target specifications, chart translations and cleansing rules.
-
FBDI loads
Template generation, upload, import jobs, error review and rerun for ERP and SCM objects.
-
HDL loads
HCM business objects in dependency order, with effective dating.
-
Reconciliation
Balance, count and value comparisons for each object and cycle.
-
Cutover
Sequence, timing, freeze rules and go/no-go checks.
Common use cases
-
Open payables and supplier master
Suppliers, sites and bank accounts load first, then open invoices and credits with totals agreed to the old ledger by supplier.
-
General ledger balances and history
Balances by period load with chart translation; history converts only as far back as the business needs.
-
Fixed assets
Cost, accumulated depreciation and depreciation parameters load per book, and the first depreciation run is compared with source.
-
Employee and payroll balances
Person, assignment, compensation and year-to-date balances load via HDL and reconcile employee by employee.
-
Items, on-hand and open orders
Item master, on-hand inventory and open purchase or sales orders convert with cost reconciliation.
The migration cycle
- 1
Extract
Pull data from source with counts and control totals captured.
- 2
Cleanse and map
Apply rules agreed with data owners and translate values.
- 3
Validate before load
Check required fields, combinations and reference data.
- 4
Load
Import in dependency order and capture every rejected record.
- 5
Reconcile
Compare source and target by object, period and entity.
- 6
Review with owners
Business owners sign off each object.
- 7
Repeat
Fix, reload and time the process. Typically several cycles.
- 8
Cut over
Final load with go/no-go checks.
What a good reconciliation looks like
Illustrative scenario. Not a real client engagement. No outcomes are claimed.
Illustrative checks, not client results.
- Ledger balances
- Trial balance by ledger, period and account matches between source and Fusion, or every difference is listed with a reason.
- Supplier and customer balances
- Open item totals by supplier and customer match the control accounts.
- Assets
- Total cost and accumulated depreciation by book and category agree to the ledger.
- Inventory
- On-hand quantity and value by item and organization agree to the stock count and the ledger.
- People
- Headcount, assignments and year-to-date balances agree to payroll reports.
What you receive
- Migration strategy and scope
- Source-to-target mapping documents
- Cleansing rules and data owner approvals
- Automated extraction and load scripts
- Reconciliation reports for every cycle
- Defect log and resolution

Questions people ask
How much history should we convert?
As little as the business can live with. Open items, balances and a limited history are typical. Old history can remain in an archive.
How many rehearsals do we need?
Usually at least three: one to find the major issues, one to validate fixes and timing, and one dress rehearsal.
